We are looking for a new place to live! We want to rent a house (or possibly an apartment, see below).
These are the things that are non-negotiable:
- within a 30 min drive of Portland, OR (but not Gresham)
- $1500 or less monthly rent
- at least 2 bedrooms
- no stairs/steps (a couple of outdoor steps are okay if there is room for a long ramp, a basement is okay if most of the place is on one level)
- hardwood or concrete floors everywhere (no carpet)
- full-size step-in shower stall(s). It can have a small lip, but it can’t be high like a tub.
- cats allowed
- soundproof (or soundproof-able) room for P’s office (a bedroom might work)
- if an apartment, must be corner unit
We would strongly prefer:
- a house (even a duplex or triplex) over an apartment
- as close to Portland as possible
And this is our dream list:
- no stairs/steps at all
- handicapped-accessible kitchen appliances
- handicapped-accessible cupboards and pantries (low height)
- wide doorways
- fabulous, kind, helpful, considerate, and unobtrusive off-site landlady/landlord, eager to fix or replace things when needed.
- at least 1.5 bathrooms
- clothes washing machine and dryer free and on site
- lawn maintenance provided and paid for by landlord – or even better, no lawn at all
- shade trees and flowers and birdbath/birdfeeders in the yard
- porch swing
- solid construction for minimal noise leakage
- free standing (single family unit)
- built-in garage that connects to the house
- our own private driveway
- covered porches
- covered mailbox safe from the rain
- quiet + friendly neighborhood
- soft, quiet lighting throughout
- big, openable windows on all sides
- pretty views
- ceiling fans
- central air conditioning
- central heat
- fireplace
- a ginormous bathtub
- strong water pressure
- lots of cabinets and a pantry in the kitchen
- lots of counter space in the kitchen
- built-in dishwasher
- modern appliances
- built-in bookshelves
- colorful walls (or permission to paint them)
- east of the river, west of 82nd
